Technology

Stratum's technology is based on a stacked laminate cell design using an inert polymer matrix. Since unit cells constructed in this way are less than 1mm thick, a much wider range of battery sizes and shapes can be produced than are available with conventional winding technology. The streamlined, simplified manufacturing process with no complicated cell components, delivers intrinsic safety and reliability, especially for larger cell formats. Batteries are packaged in laminate soft packs, and thus offer significant weight savings over designs that use metal cans.

Battery Chemistry and Performance

Stratum's manufacturing technology is compatible with all lithium-ion chemistries, depending on a particular customer's application. In each system, Stratum's products deliver high end performance and high quality. Most products for portable electronics are based on cobalt or mixed nickel oxide positive electrodes for the highest energy density. Other cathodes such as manganese oxide and iron phosphate are available for large format batteries and modules where safety and low cost are the predominant considerations.
